Dear Mr. Fowler

RE; WINTER SALTING OF ROADS – EDLESBOROUGH PARISH

Your response of 27th December 2006 to the Parish Council’s letter of 24th November 2006 was discussed at the Parish Council meeting held on 25th January 2007.

The Parish Council are particularly concerned and very surprised that Edlesborough High Street does not rank highly enough for it to be included in the priority 1 salting network. From a report of 22nd November 2006 under Item 3 – Edlesborough Village Roads you stated "The assessment for this road has been scored taking into account bends, historically salted, public/school bus route and adjacent key facility (school). Again as with Ivinghoe Aston traffic volumes are low and generally the road is flat. It scored 29 risk assessment points and was ranked equal 509." The Parish Council wish to point out that this road (High Street) is certainly not flat as there is a significant hill from the A4146. There are also two bends on approaching from the A4146, one prior to the School and one immediately after the School with a continual line of parents’ parked cars from Church Croft to St. Mary’s Glebe at least twice a day making it impossible for moving traffic to pass without extreme difficulty even on dry days. It is also a bus route and a busy ‘rat run’ during the early morning and evening periods. It can only be assumed that your assessment was not carried out at school dropping off and picking up times or the morning and evening ‘rush hours’. Thames Valley Police are fully aware of the problems with traffic in the High Street. There is a continual speeding traffic problem and not to rank the salting of this road as a No. 1 Priority is, in the opinion of the Parish Council, unthinkable. The situation would be far more dangerous with ice or snow and accidents will inevitably occur.

The Parish Council request that Buckinghamshire County Council reconsider the salting of the High Street, Edlesborough as a number 1 priority.

Yours sincerely

L.C. Sargeant (Mrs.)
