5.Reports from Project Action Teams

Edlesborough Post Office – Report from Jim. Consultation closed in late August – they will stay open. Will close for one week in October (9th- 17th) to refurbish and extend to two counters. Alternative PO’s are in Dunstable. Eaton Bray is definitely closing. Overall the project has been achieved – hopefully they will get DVLA status too!

Village Beautification – Report from Christine. Meeting has taken place with the Highways technician (AVDC) who will advise on what can be done with regards to planters along the highway and at roundabouts.

Some issues regarding insurance of individuals doing the planting- needs checking. ACTION AW

Estimates costs of £275 for each planter – 10 planned at route into the villages. All to be maintained by volunteers – as yet no plan for Dagnall roundabout, as no confirmed details yet. It would be an ideal opportunity to get some sponsorship from local businesses for the costs of upkeep of each planter.

Lighting quotes for the church are being sought. (£90 pa is a ball park figure) Needs churchyard trees to be trimmed.

Litter picking needs to be addressed, particularly on the Green. Volunteer team will be recruited.

For this and for other projects, we need to sort out a bank account, but this could be complicated. Further investigations to be made. ACTION KB/AW

Footpaths and Pavements – Report from Alan. A big group, but they are settling down. A lack of knowledge and understanding of the differences between footpaths, pavements etc. is slowing things a little. Still no leader for the group. Kevin Cubbage has volunteered to get the group together for the next meeting and find a team leader.

Youth Facilities – Report from Vicky. Three Open events taking place to seek the views of the village youth – the project team need more help for Edlesborough and Northall, as all the present group are Dagnall residents. A piece has been sent to Focus. Mrs Liz Coates is the leader of this group.
