Young people needed!

ARE YOU YOUNG & ENTHUSIASTIC? DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR ENVIRONMENT & COMMUNITY?

Why not join the newly formed Edlesborough Parish Plan steering group? What’s good about our villages? Do young people need more facilities? Can you catch a bus to where you want to go? Can you travel between villages easily? Will you be able to afford to buy/rent housing in your village?

The newly formed Parish Plan Steering Group are volunteers from the community representing a wide range of groups/businesses/landowners etc. BUT, Edlesborough Parish Council would especially like to have some young representatives from the age groups 12 – 16yrs and 16 – 21yrs involved. Do you fall into these age categories and would like to know why there aren’t better facilities for you or maybe there are things/places in the parish you truly value and wouldn’t like to see changed? We would love to hear from you, you don’t have to come forward by yourself, maybe a group of you would like to represent the views of the young people of the parish and be part of shaping the future of Edlesborough, Dagnall and Northall?

Please contact:- parish.council.clerk@edlesborough.gov.uk or phone Lin Sargeant 01525 220859.

EDLESBOROUGH, DAGNALL & NORTHALL PARISH PLAN

REPORT FROM MEETING 28th FEB. 2007

Edlesborough Parish Council hosted this second meeting in conjunction with representatives from Bucks Community Action, who are a charity based organisation specialising in helping rural communities develop parish plans. It was a very interesting evening and hopefully all who attended are a little better informed as to the benefits of developing a plan or, ‘Vision for the future of our Parish’.

BCA highlighted the following as some of the reasons to develop a plan:-

Parish Plans are influencing local planning and are being acknowledged by AVDC and Bucks CC in their forward planning. E.g. AVDC use parish plan data in their programme of improving leisure/play facilities in rural areas and Bucks CC include parish plan data in their local transport forward planning.

Parish plans can provide very good evidence for funding opportunities and approval of local projects such as village hall improvements, facilities and equipment for young people, affordable housing, improved footpaths/bridleways etc.

The whole community taking ownership of issues affecting the parish and setting the agenda for improving these issues.

It was stressed how important it would be to reach out into the community so that the plan became truly representative of parishioners needs. One of the best ways to do this is to hold public open days where by everyone living, working, owning businesses or simply passing through the parish can call in to give their views on the good things, the needs and issues that concern them. So watch this space as the very first item on the agenda of a newly formed Parish Plan Steering Group will be to set some dates for an open day in each of the three villages. We hope these will take place during Spring/early Summer.

Keep your eye open in the Focus, village notice boards, shop windows, Edlesborough Parish Council website (www.edlesborough.gov.uk) for further news, dates etc.

Edlesborough Parish Plan will be developed by the Steering Group in partnership with Edlesborough Parish Council. Edlesborough Parish Council looks forward to working from an action plan developed from issues raised by you the parishioners.

*EDLESBOROUGH Parish Plan

Our initial Parish Plan meeting was held at Edlesborough Memorial Hall on the 7th February, 2007. It was great to see so many interested parishioners from a wide ranging back ground, some 42 of you attended.

We had an informative presentation from our Vice Chairman of the Parish Council, Kevin Cubbage, and we were scheduled to have a presentation from a representative from Bucks Community Action who help and advise parishes developing plans, but, unfortunately due to illness they were unable to attend.

The meeting was interesting and lively, with plenty of opportunity for discussion and it was obvious that there is a lot of passion and enthusiasm for our villages. Due to Sarah Alwood's illness it was realised that another meeting would be necessary to inform us all of the benefits of developing a plan and the intricacies of how to go about this.

This next meeting will be held on Wednesday 28th February 2007 at 7.45pm in Edlesborough Memorial Hall - ALL Parishioners are welcome.   We will have a BCA rep. to speak to us, but we are also trying to secure the involvement of representatives from Cheddington Parish Plan which was developed in 2003 and a representative from Great Brickhill Parish Plan who developed a plan in 2005 in order that they can speak to us about the benefits a parish plan has bought their villages. We expect this to be a very interesting meeting.

If you were unable to attend the meeting on the 7th February but are interested in what goes on our villages you are more than welcome to attend this next meeting, we will look forward to seeing you.

Meanwhile, if you would like to do some research on parish plans before the meeting have a look at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk on the right hand menu click on About Aylesbury Vale and then scroll down and click on Parish Plans.

or go to www.defra.gov.uk/rural/communities/parish-planning

Your Invitation to find out more about

the Edlesborough, Dagnall and Northall Parish Plan.

What is a Parish Plan?

A Parish Plan uses extensive consultation to identify a community's needs.  A Parish Plan is a statement of how the community sees itself developing over the next few years. It will identify local problems and opportunities, setting out a view of the future and how this can be achieved. It will prepare a plan of action to achieve particular goals. The Plan can include any social, environmental or economic issue e.g. employment, playgrounds, design of new buildings, local housing, public transport, footpaths/cycle ways/bridleways etc.

A Parish Plan provides evidence of community priorities, helping you to work with decision-makers to influence the way these priorities might be tackled. To do this your Parish Plan Steering Group should work closely with the local authority.

Who should be involved?

For the plan to be truly holistic and sustainable it is important that the whole community is involved in producing the plan.

Your chance to find out more.

The Parish Council invites interested villagers from  clubs, organisations and societies in the Edlesborough, Dagnall and Northall to become involved.  Although the Parish Council will take a leading role, the Parish Plan should be a community effort.  The Parish Council intends to hold a meeting early in 2006 for anyone interested in finding out more or becoming involved.  A representative from Bucks Community Action will attend to speak about the assistance they have given other local parishes in the development of their plans and their achievements.
